2.0 ULTRASONIC BEAM
Rectilinear
Propagation, Radiation Patterns, Characteristics Near field, Far field,
Inverse Square Law, Beam Spread, Resolution.
3.0 PRODUCTION OF ULTRASONIC ENERGY
Transducers,
Piezo Electric Effect, Generation of Ultrasonic Waves, Natural and
Synthetic Piezo Electric Materials, Probe Construction, Probe types,
Coupling, Coupling Media.
4.0 CALIBRATION AND DEFECT SIZING
Checking of
Ultrasonic Flaw Detector Performance against British, European and
American Standards. Determination of transducer beam characteristics,
construction of distance amplitude curves in steel and water. Use of
Flaw Size Estimation techniques including:
a) DGS system
b) Maximum amplitude
c) 6 of 20 dB drop system
d) ASME distance echo correction system
