Ultrasonic Inspection
Training Course Syllabus - Level I
1.0 THEORY COURSE (Off Job)
1.1 DURATION
The theory
content shall be of a minimum of 20 hours duration.
1.2 CONTENT The theory course shall cover the following main topics:
I) Sound spectrum
II) Ultrasonic Wave Propagation
III) The Piezo Electric Effect
IV) Reflection and Refraction
V) Transducer Construction
VI) Basic Block Diagram of a Flaw Detector
VII) Manual and Immersion Techniques
2.0 SPECIFIC THEORY
2.1 DURATION
The Specific
Theory content shall be of a minimum 10 hours duration.
2.2 CONTENT
The Specific
Theory course shall cover the following main topics:
I) Determination of Transducer Characteristics
II) Determination of Flaw Detector
III) Requirements of Specifications and Codes of Practice for the
product supply
IV) Limitations of Techniques.
3.0 PRACTICAL EXERCISES
3.1 DURATION
There shall
be a minimum of 20 hours of practical exercises
3.2 CONTENT
The
Practical exercises shall cover the following main topics
I) Flaw detector time base linearity
II) Flaw detector amplifier linearity
III) Determination of transducer resolution and dead zones. (Single and
Double crystal compressional probes).
IV) Determination of characteristics of Shear wave probes
V) Calibration and velocity checks on standard block (IIW)
VI) Detection and removal of Ultrasonic response area
VII) Recording of information.
