Training Course Syllabus - Level I
1. INTRODUCTION
History and discovery of radioactive materials and development of
Radiography.
2. ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION
Fundamental Properties of Matter, Types of Radiation, X-ray production,
Gamma ray production. Radiation spectrums, Radioactive Materials,
Ionization, Radiation interaction with matter. Radiation exposure,
Attenuation characteristics, Inverse Square Law, Half value layer.
3. RADIOLOGICAL PROTECTION/SAFETY
Ionizing radiations, sealed source regulations, Biological
effects/dangers of Ionizing radiation, Allowable limits, General
protection,
Radiation Safety and measuring equipment. Safety procedures using
radiation equipment, storing and transporting of Gamma ray sources.
4. RADIOGRAPHY
The radiation image, scatter, types of intensifying screens
radiation filters, radiation absorption, radiographic cassettes, defect
visibility, quality of radiation, exposure charts. Geometric factors
affecting - geometric unsharpness, inherent unsharpness.
5. THE RADIOGRAPH
Formation of latent image on film Reciprocity law, Photographic Density,
Contrast, Exposure characteristic
curve. Development effects of time, temperature and agitation. Structure
and manufacture of film. Selection of film speed/class. Poor results and
their possible causes.
6. RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGE QUALITY
Radiographic sensitivity, radiographic contrast, film contrast, subject
contrast definition. Film graininess and screen mottle effect.
Penetrameters of Image Quality Indicators.
7. FILM HANDLING, LOADING AND PROCESSING
Safelight and dark-room practices, loading and handling techniques,
cleanliness. Manual and automatic film processing. Handling film boxes.
8. RADIOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUE
Choice of technique. Single wall, Double wall, Viewing two walls single
wall simultaneously, offset double wall exposure, single wall viewing.
Elliptical techniques, Panoramic radiography. Use of multiple film
loading, Specimen configuration. Fluoroscopic techniques. Real time
radiography.
