Level I - Theory
1. INTRODUCTION TO NDT
2. ORIGINS OF DEFECTS
3. INTRODUCTION TO PENETRANT INSPECTION- REVIEW
4. PENETRANTS & THEIR APPLICATION
5. PENETRANT REMOVAL
Direct water washing; (Hydrophilic process), Emulsification (Lipophilic
process), solvent removal.
6. DRYING
When to dry: Methods of drying - conditions.
7. DEVELOPERS
Their action; Types; dry powder, non-aqueous, suspension, aqueous forms,
solutions, suspension, special.
8. INSPECTION
White light levels for color contrast processes; UV-A (black light) levels
required; Inspection booths and areas; Levels of white light allowed in
booths; Fluorescent processes; Handling parts; Visual acuity - color
vision.
9. EQUIPMENT
Field test kits; Manually operated lines; Automation, Semi &Fully
automated lines; Use of baskets, jigs, turntables and hoists.
10. CONTROL CHECKS
Functional tests; Physical and Chemical tests; Temperature and Pressure;
UV-A lamps and filters; Tank levels.
11.
PRACTICAL
Practical application of various processes on cast, wrought and welded
components. The use of comparators is illustrated.
12. PRACTICAL SPECIFIC TRAINING
Practical training based on controlling Specifications, to include,
control and maintenance checks (calibration of TAM panels, plant
performance, calibration and use of refractometer, penetrant brilliance,
penetrant intensity, developer control etc), processing parameters.
