FreeScan is a novel state of the art Bluetooth based wireless 3D manual scanner from NDT Consultants Limited, UK. It's a lightweight portable solution for quick and easy deployment in large areas or for scanning objects with complex geometries. It can work with almost any type of sensor connected to an instrument which provides an Analogue (or suitable Digital) output of the to-be-measured feature!

The Bluetooth enabled position tracker has been made battery operated. This makes it maintenance free and portable position tracking device that can be easily mounted above the scanning surface and can be quickly setup for easy and hassle-free scanning.

The FreeScan hardware has a very simple user friendly interface. Curved surfaces can be scanned in 3-D and the system can easily be used by unskilled operators by utilizing Windows XP based Software for Data Capture, Analysis and Reporting, providing excellent results with a very gentle learning curve. A calibration wizard is provided for easy setup for 2-D or 3-D applications. 4 Point application setup can be finished in less than 1 minute.

Applications:

FreeScan provides multi-technology (UT/EC/N-BUS) software for diverse applications such as service or production scanning of large areas, for example: aircraft wings, fuselage and front cone scanning etc. Also scanning of complex shapes: elbows, blades and various types of castings and valves. The device is designed to operate with several Analysis instruments such as N-BUS (for composites), USB-UT (for corrosion mapping system) or "Bondmaster" (Olympus). FreeScan is unique as it can acquire and display complex data in three dimensions and this can be simplified to any two orthogonal dimensions within the software.

1. Composites Inspection - with N-BUS

-The application field for narrow Band Ultrasonic Spectroscopy (or N-BUS) will increase rapidly with the growing application of layered structures in modern aircraft, for example, GLARE, FRP, CFRP and HONEYCOMB for aircraft such as the Boeing 7E7, Airbus A-380, Joint Strike Fighter F-35 etc.

2. Corrosion Mapping System - with USB-UT

-it can scan plane or curved corrosion surfaces, obtaining C-Scan images like this:

3. Compatibility with different scanning devices

-it can be coupled with several devices on the market designed by different companies such as "Bondmaster 1000e" (from Olympus), for composites inspection.
